Conundrum Creek to the Roaring Fork River
This section of Castle Creek enters lower elevation montane ecosystems. Land ownership transitions from mostly public lands to mostly private lands, and with this transition we also see a change from a natural to a human-dominated landscape. In a section of the upper part of the reach, the riparian habitat on the right bank and the in-stream habitat are both heavily modified by the close proximity of the Castle Creek road. Rural development of large homes has degraded the stream and riparian habitat in the middle section of the segment, where landscaping to the water’s edge, bank erosion, and excessive sedimentation have impacted this area.
