Tagert Beaver Ponds to the Slaughter House Bridge, Aspen
This segment of the Roaring Fork begins at a series of beaver ponds above Tagerts Lake where the valley begins to widen, and ends 11.5 miles downstream below the City of Aspen. The upper third of the segment is characterized by high quality river and riparian habitat, except where a private development has removed riparian vegetation and dredged the stream channel. Rural and urban development has degraded stream and riparian habitat on the lower two thirds of the segment, where impacts include removal or dramatic alteration of the riparian vegetation, armoring of the stream banks, building and landscaping to the water’s edge, dewatering by local stream diversions, and release of untreated storm runoff.
